Niro sells its 2000th Mobile Minor laboratory scale Spray Dryer (That's nearly one a week for over 50 years)

GEA Niro has supplied its 2000th Mobile Minor spray dryer since the unit was first introduced in 1948. The unit was delivered, in January 2003 to the customer, Danisco Beaminster Ltd. (a daughter of the Danish DANISCO group).

Since its introduction, the Mobile Minor has gone through much evolution to keep it ahead of its competition. It has always been recognised as the industry standard for small-scale spray drying equipment. Dave Dubbin, the Sales Director for GEA Niro in the UK acknowledged that it was a remarkable achievement for any piece of equipment. "2000 might not sound like a high number, but that's the equivalent of almost one spray dryer a week for over 50 years," he said.

Danisco will be using the Mobile Minor as part of its research and development facility for food preservatives. It will be used to test processes and products ahead of full-scale production and to produce small samples of product for customer evaluation.

Anders Berg Christensen, the Project Engineer handling the sale in Copenhagen, added that the Mobile Minor owes its dominant market share in part to its flexibility making it ideal for a wide variety of applications and capable of being adapted as production schedules change.

The Mobile Minor is also available with closed cycle operation for use with organic solvents and as a Pharmaceutical version, the PHARMASDTM, type PSD-1 that will be on show at the ACHEMA show in Frankfurt this May. A new IFDTM (Integrated Filter Dryer) version of the Mobile Minor will also be shown at the ACHEMA show.
