From 3-5th December, GEA Niro will be joining other leaders in pharmaceutical processing at the European Conference, Spray Drying 2008, in Copenhagen. The event will include a full speaker programme and a guided tour of the GEA Niro Pharma Test Station.

The final day offers a hands-on spray drying course at GEA Niro to demonstrate the versatility of spray drying for handling different products and solvents and the way in which the variation of process parameters affect yield and particle characteristics.

Dr. Harald Stahl from GEA Pharma Systems will act as moderator for the event and will discuss The Fundamentals of Spray Drying. Henrik Schwartzbach from GEA Niro will present A Risk-based Approach to Product Quality in Spray Drying.

Other speakers at the conference include:
Prof. Geoffrey Lee of the University of Erlangen discussing Spray Drying on a Laboratory Scale Dr. Filipe Gaspar from Hovione speaking about the Scale-up of Spray Drying Processes
Dr. Sune Klint Andersen from Novo Nordisk A/S, presenting Validation of Spray Drying Processes on a Production Scale
Dr. Dan Mohan from Applied Prime Technologies discussing Aseptic Spray Drying in the Pharmaceutical Industry
Dr. Albert W. Brzeczko from ISP presenting his subject Enhanced Bioavailability and Product Performance for Amorphous Pharmaceutical Spray Dried Dispersions.

Spray drying is presently one of the most exciting technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. It is an ideal process when the end product must comply with precise quality standards regarding particle size distribution, residual moisture/solvent content, bulk density and form.

One advantage of spray drying is the remarkable versatility of the technology, evident when analyzing the multiple applications and the wide range of products that can be obtained. From very fine particles for pulmonary delivery to agglomerated powders for oral dosages, from amorphous to crystalline products and the potential for one-step formulations, spray drying offers multiple opportunities that no other single drying technology can claim.

The conference is aimed at specialists and executives working in pharmaceutical manufacture, research and development, and quality control and assurance. It will also be of interest to technicians, planners, and plant designers especially those involved in the manufacture of powders and granules.
