Atomizer

Efficient Rotary Atomizers

The atomizers drive
The atomizers drive consists of two parts. The top part includes the gear box, motor, and its support. The motor is a 2-pole, vertical flange type, and power is transmitted from the motor to the vertical gear box input shaft via a toothed coupling. The lower part of the atomizer comprises the support for the spindle bearings, feed pipe and cooling air assembly, and conical protective skirt. The spindle operates in special high speed, single row, and radial ball bearings. The drive design is based on the flexible spindle concept to ensure that irregularities in feed rate and other mirror imbalances in the atomizer wheel are eliminated without spindle and bearing damage. The accompanying monitoring system includes:

  • High and low oil pressure alarm
  • Low oil flow alarm
  • High oil level alarm
  • High oil temperature alarm
  • Flooding alarm as protection against feed leakage on the supporting plate
  • Ammeter and running hour-meter installed in the spray dryer control panel to indicate operating performance
  • Spindle vibration alarm as protection against excessive vibration conditions (optional for heavy duty applications)
  • Tachometer to register variable spindle speed adjusted by control of frequency converter (optional)

All parts in contact with feed liquid comply with 3A and similar national sanitary directives.

The atomizers wheel
The F160 operates with vaned or bushing wheels depending upon the feed being atomized. The vaned wheel can have either 36 low or high straight radial vanes (low vaned wheel diameters 210 or 320 mm, high vaned wheel 210 mm) or 24 low or high curved vanes (wheel diameter 210 mm), the latter used for non-abrasive feeds. If feeds are abrasive, bushing wheels of 210 and 240 mm diameter are used. The operating specification determines the type of wheel selected.

The bushing wheels are patented designs, where parts exposed to feed are abrasion-resistant and easily replaceable. The wheel is made from stainless steel, but has conical inserts and a bottom plate of alumina or advanced ceramic material.
