A freeze concentration that is second to none
Freeze concentration is a new technology for concentrating natural products at freezing points by means of crystal formation and following separation of the ice crystals in a washing tube.
The freeze concentration technology is among other products used in the Niro coffee processing system. The process is marketed and engineered by our sister company Niro Process Technology in the Netherlands.
Niro coffee processing system with freeze concentration
The latest double extraction technique is featured in the Niro coffee processing system. With this system, water is introduced at two different stages to decrease the overall extraction time, while producing two completely separate extract fractions (aroma and hydrolysis). It is a continuous process featuring batch operated multi-extraction percolators. With the design and operation of the double extraction plant, a superior aroma profile is achieved. This also makes it ideal for canned coffee production.
Technologies available for concentration of the coffee is freeze concentration, evaporation and membrane filtration. Concentration of the coffee extract is done under lenient processing conditions in equipment designed specially for coffee.
The total extraction time is 1½ - 2 hours, compared with conventional extraction systems where the total extraction time is typically 3 - 4 hours.
