Milk Powder Plant from Niro A/S
Niro is internationally recognized as a leader in milk powder plant technology setting the trend in process engineering and plant design. Plant reliability and performance are given the highest priority, and we are continuously working on further improvement of the processes involved. Product properties, ease of operation, and state of the art technology are built into Niro plants. Proven standardized components are used to build the plants and new modernized components are used for retrofitting of existing plants to meet new standards for energy saving, product quality, emission, and plant output.

Spray Dryer System / milk powder plant
Typical Applications
Spray drying is ideal for milk, infant formula, milk replacer/creamers, whey processing, and milk proteins.
Milk powder plant: Spray drying is the transformation of liquid feed into a powder form by spraying the liquid into a hot drying medium inside a drying chamber in one continuous process. The dried powder will conform to single particles or agglomerates, depending on the physical and chemical composition of the liquid feed.
Dried powder particles, along with moisture-laden exhaust air from the drying chamber, are processed through cyclone separators or other separators to separate the powder from the exhaust air.
Three types of atomization are generally used:
- Rotary atomizer, where a product is continuously accelerated toward the edge of a wheel by centrifugal force. The liquid is discharged at high speed at the periphery of the wheel, resulting in very fine droplets
- Two-fluid or pneumatic nozzle for producing very small particles, especially from viscous liquids
- Pressure nozzle atomizer for uniform coarse particles
VIBRO-FLUIDIZER™ (Fluid Bed Dryer)
The VIBRO-FLUIDIZER™ is especially suited for products that fluidize poorly due to broad particle size distribution and/or irregular particle shape.
The VIBRO-FLUIDIZER™ is a long horizontal box divided into upper and lower sections by a specially designed perforated air distributor plate. Fluid bed processing involves drying, cooling, agglomeration, granulation, and coating of particulate materials. It is ideal for a wide range of both heat-sensitive and non-heat-sensitive products.
For drying, alternatively for cooling, warm or cold air is introduced through the air plenum chambers in the lower section. The product is continuously fed into the perforated plate, forming a shallow fluidized powder layer. Product residence time depends on the product and fluidizing velocity.
