Multi Stage Dryer™

Multi Stage Dryer - MSD™ - Combines spray drying and fluid bed drying technologies

Agglomerated powders are obtained in systems based upon the integrated fluid bed or belt and a multi stage dryer concept where moist powder, produced during the first drying stage, forms agglomerates, which are post-dried and cooled in the following stages.

FLUIDIZED SPRAY DRYER™ (FOOD AND CHEMICAL) / MULTI STAGE DRYER (DAIRY)

The FSD™ and the MSD™ combine spray drying and fluid bed drying technologies and offer excellent product flexibility and good thermal efficiency.

Pressure nozzles or a rotary atomizer spray the feed down towards the fluid bed where agglomeration incorporating finer, recycled material takes place. Exhaust air outlet through the roof causes further agglomeration in the spray zone.

Sticky products can be dried successfully, and the concept is ideal for drying heat sensitive products, and improved aroma retention is accomplished.

Product: Can produce coarse, agglomerated (instant), free-flowing dustless powders.

SPRAY DRYING
Spray drying involves the atomization of a liquid feed into a spray of droplets and contacting the droplets with hot drying air in a process chamber. The following evaporation of moisture from the droplets results in formation of dry particles into a powder.

FLUID BED PROCESSING
Fluid bed processing involves drying, agglomeration, granulation, and cooling of particulate materials. In fluid bed drying heat is supplied by air/gas through the product layer to remove moisture contents in the powder material. Alternatively heating panels or tubes immersed in the fluidized powder layer can act as an additional drying source.
