Application: Test work to obtain operational data and basis for design of industrial-sized coffee extractors.
Capacity: The typical feed capacity is 15 kg/h and the minimum feed requirement is about 200 kg. Extract output is approximately 7,5 kg total solids/h.
Specification: The extractor has 7 chambers, each holding 20 litres, where the fast, batchwise extraction is performed in vertical percolator columns. The typical temperature of the operation is up to 180°C and the water is heated electrically.
NB: Normally, 2 shifts are required to obtain steady results.
The system features a layout with circular columns, which provides for a more compact design.
These up-to-date processing designs recognise the importance of several factors, including:
- Optimum raw material handling and preparation - including pre-moistening - right up to the filling of the columns
- Selective introduction of extraction medium at two different stages
- Separation of extracted solids in two extracts (split or double)
- Minimum residence time of extracted solids by maintaining high extract flow.
