Application: The RAY 1 is a small-scale freeze dryer for test work. It is designed to obtain operational data, to establish a basis for the design of industrial-size plants using radiation heat transfer and to produce product for quality evaluation.
The RAY1 pilot plant is used in the food and beverage industries, as well as in bacterial and pharmaceutical applications. It is designed for hygienic processing and features easy cleaning and maintenance.
Capacity: The maximum evaporative capacity is approx. 2 kg/h, and the amount of feed required is between 0 and 6 kg – typically 1.5 to 2 kg.
Specification: The freeze dryer has a tray system with 4 trays, each having an area of 0.19 m2, and a weighing device for accurate process control. The freeze dryer can operate at a pressure as low as 0.2 mbar, and the maximum heating plate temperature is approx. 140°C.
The process is continuously monitored and controlled by selection of drying parameters such as vacuum, heating plate temperature and maximum product temperature.
