Design of the RAY™ 1
The freeze drying pilot plant RAY™ 1 is used in the Food and Beverage industries for
small-scale production of market samples and for pilot testing of new products
prior to full-scale production. The RAY™ 1 also features easy cleaning and
maintenance. The RAY™ 1 plant is also used
in bacterial and pharmaceutical applications.
The pilot plant RAY™
1 is operated via a PC control system. Parameters are
monitored and stored during the freeze drying process to provide full
documentation of the process. This makes it possible to repeat the test with
the same freeze drying characteristics. Modem for remote control or
troubleshooting can be integrated in the PC system.
Test runs with the RAY™ 1
provide excellent data for scaling up to industrial production, either in one
of the Atlas RAY™
batch freeze dryers or in a CONRAD™ continuous freeze drying plant.

(Capacity and freeze drying time depend on e.g. product type,
bulk density, product layer thickness and heat
sensitivity)
Auxiliary equipment
Various auxiliary
equipment can be supplied wih the RAY™
1 pilot plant.
For solid products:
- Low-temperature freezer
- Granulator and sieve arrangement
For liquid products such as coffee and tea, etc.:
- Foaming equipment for bulk density control
- Granulator and sieve arrangement for definition of granule size
- Prefreezing and final freezing equipment for controlled freezing process
