GEA Niro is now extending our offerings to include contract manufacturing
on our extensive cGMP spray drying facilities. The GEA Niro Pharma Test Station
is available for developing spray drying processes for pharmaceuticals and
pharmaceutical grade products as well as for produc-tion of samples for safety,
stability and toxicology studies and of Clinical Trials Materials.
‘Spray drying is currently being explored widely in the pharmaceutical
industry, and we offer to assist and put our expertise at the industry’s
disposal, says Michael Wahlberg, head of GEA Niro’s Test & Development.
‘Working with us allows clients to work with spray drying and achieve proof of
concept fast and effectively. The processes for effective drug delivery can be
developed before any major capital investments are made’.
The GEA Niro
Pharma Test Station is a fully equipped cGMP spray drying facility. It includes
two GEA Niro PHARMASD™ spray dryers; a PSD-1 spray dryer, which is
a laboratory size unit suitable for initial tests and productions of small
quantities and a PSD-4 spray dryer for full-scale produc-tions. The Pharma Test
Station is part of GEA Niro’s Test Center where spray drying process
de-velopment and initial tests can be performed under flexible non-GMP
conditions before being burdened by cGMP requirements.
Pharmaceutical Spray Drying
Spray drying is a fast and
gentle way to produce free-flowing powders and a process that allows a very
precise particle formation. The drying takes place in seconds and at
temperatures preserving the product’s activity. Spray drying can be applied in
pharmaceutical production to obtain several benefits, including increased
bioavailability, controlled release or taste masking and aseptic pro-duction.
It can also be applied for production of fine powders for inhalation or other
applications. It can be applied in the production of APIs, excipients as well
as of solid dosage formulations of final drugs.
