Niro Process Technology - Technologies in the Processing of Food Products Research and Development
Process Technology: Processing Plants for the Food & Dairy Industries
Niro specializes in the design and supply of plants and process technology lines for the manufacture of food products in powder and granular form. This includes all technologies of liquids and solids processing: Extraction, concentrating, separating, filtering, pumping, heating, freeze- and spray drying, agglomerating, granulating as well as powder packing and handling.
Technology, engineering skills and financial expertise form the basis for offering the latest in design, delivery, project management and project financing.
Focused research makes the latest process technology and processing techniques available for manufacturing the new generation of food products.
Being in the forefront of equipment design, Niro is able to comply with the most stringent needs for hygiene, operational safety and environmental protection.
Special expertise is offered for the supply of plants for the manufacture of heat sensitive aroma-based consumer food products.

Extraction
The conventional continuous extractor uses a system of vertical batch-operated percolator columns. The layout with the columns in a circle provides a more compact design.
The most up-to-date processing recognises the importance of:
- Optimum raw material handling and preparation, including premoisturing - right up to the filling of the columns
- Selective introduction of extraction medium at two different stages
- Separation of extracted solids in two extracts (split or double)
- Minimum residence time of extracted solids by maintaining high extract flow rates
Liquid Processing
For economy of the drying operation, the liquid feed must be concentrated to the maximum solids content permissible for proper atomization.
Aroma Recovery
To prevent loss of desired aroma components during evaporation, the liquid feed can be stripped of its aroma components. The aroma is condensed and bypasses the evaporation step as a concentrate.
Evaporation
Multi-effect falling-film vacuum evaporators featuring either thermal or mechanical vapour recompression ensure low temperature and low residence time conditions.
